August 7 Show and Tell

A regular treat at the guild business meetings on the first Thursday of each month is a birthday cake (or 2 or 3) to celebrate the birthdays of members during that month. Debbie decorated the cake she brought with a nine-patch design. Thanks to Debbie and all the members who have brought birthday cakes throughout the year.

After our business meeting and birthday cake social time, we had Show and Tell. Many of the small quilts shown have been donated to the Small Quilt Auction which is part of the guild's annual September quilt show. If you see a small quilt that you'd like, come to the quilt show to check out the small quilts in the silent auction.

 Chris made this small quilt.

Gail showed a sample of her newest pattern, "Alaska Wildlife Cruise". Look for the pattern in the quilt shops.

During our July program, we learned card making techniques. Shirley and Lynne showed their finished cards.

Delberta made this small quilt.

Jackie showed two small quilts. The elephant quilt reminds Jackie of Anabell, the elephant that used to live at the Alaska Zoo. The blue quilt with the trees is titled, "Guadalupe River."

Darlene's small quilt is titled, "Snack Attack."

Robyn showed "Be Young", made by Jan for the Small Quilt Auction.

Lynne's small quilt features lively geckos.

Pink and blue must be favorite colors of Mary's. She donated this cheerful quilt to the Small Quilt Auction.

Shirley made this small quilt.

Kay, on the left, spent two years making this intricate quilt for her son-in-law. What a lucky guy!

Kay named her quilt, "Sister Squares", because she and her sister, Robyn, took a class together. Robyn finished her quilt immediately; Kay took much longer to complete hers.

Robyn made this colorful quilt at a retreat.

Marilyn bought the panel for this quilt during a trip to New York.

Whenever a month has a fifth Thursday, guild members meet to make service quilts that are donated to various social service agencies in Anchorage. Often, the material for these quilts is donated. Usually, one member will piece the quilt, another will quilt it, and a third will sew on the binding. Darlene sewed the binding on this large quilt.

July 17 Card Making Program and Show and Tell

The Dare to Wear small group presented the July program about making greeting cards using fabric and quilt scraps. Kate introduced the program, explained the materials and resources available, showed sample cards, and opened the rest of the program to a hands-on time for members to experiment and make our own cards.

These sample cards were made by Dare to Wear group members.

Members worked during the hands-on part of the program.

During a break for Show and Tell, Lynne showed her contribution to the Small Quilt Auction.

Shirley also showed her small quilt for the auction, as well as a creative kite quilt.

Margaret showed a quilt she made using the Disappearing Hourglass pattern found on the Missouri Star Quilt Company website.

Members continue to make comfort quilts. Another one was shown by Regina.
