Esterita Austin Art Quilt Classes April 22 and 23

Nationally known art quilter Esterita Austin taught two classes to guild members on Saturday and Sunday. She also gave an interesting and inspiring lecture to the guild on Friday evening. Attendees at the lecture and classes learned a new-to-us approach to creating art quilts.

Austin's Sunday class was titled "Luminescent Painted Illusions." This mono printing technique which she created involves  painting a scene on parchment paper, then fusing it to the back of organza. Although all class members worked with a photo of Anchorage at night with Sleeping Lady mountain in the background, each painted piece looked different.

Esterita Austin irons layers of painted parchment paper, Mystyfuse, and organza.

In Saturday's class, titled "Portraits", participants learned how to fuse fabric to create a portrait with consideration for lighting and shading.
