July 16 Program and Show and Tell

Guild member Carrie Payne presented the July program. In her slide presentation, Carrie described her quilt making history. Her people quilts, mostly figures of girls, started with white faces, which she thought were too bland. Then she discovered text fabric to give texture to her figures’ faces and limbs. Carrie uses a variety of embellishments. She pre-quilts the backgrounds and pre-fuses the figures. Then she has the flexibility to match a figure to the background that suits her theme for that quilt. Carrie’s web site is www.believemagic.com. She sells her fabric, patterns, and quilts in the Etsy store. She also teaches an on-line class.

After Carrie's program, guild members showed their recent quilts.

Barbara spent several days with other quilters at a remote cabin, "quilt jail" as she called it. Among other projects that she worked on, Barbara made this "wonky 9-patch" wall-hanging.
Bonnie quilted this panel with advice from other members.
Delberta made a small quilt for the Teddy Bear Quilts project.
Harmony and her husband spend time in the summer in Seldovia where she belongs to a quilt group. She likes to take easily transportable hand work and created this crazy quilt for the small quilt auction.
During her trip to Road to California, Harmony became interested in shaving cream fabric marbling but hadn't tried it. Then her husband did some in a class he teaches for science teachers, came home excited that it would be something Harmony would enjoy, and showed her how to do it. She used her fabric in this little wall-hanging for the small quilt auction.
The pattern name for this quilt made by Jane is "Buck a Block," a program run by Thangles. This pattern was the last one made for Dina's Cozy Cabin Quilts, which is now closed.
Katy enjoyed using 49 Alaska fabrics to make this quilt for a grand niece's wedding gift.
Shirley finished this little basket which someone had given her.
This little quilt and the ones below are for the Teddy Bear Quilts project.

July 2 Show and Tell

Barbara showed us the rock she painted to be used in a local artist's project.
The cat image she painted is a favorite theme of Barbara's.

The appliqué in the lower left corner of this small quilt was fussy-cut from a fabric panel.
The three small quilts above will be donated for the Teddy Bear Tea.
This small quilt is intended for use as a table cover.
Barbara created more woven ties. The one she is holding was made using two ties.
George used his sashiko machine to quilt this small quilt and the larger one below. The small one has trapunto to help the circles stand out.

The top of this comfort quilt was created by Judy W. and quilted by George using his sashiko machine.

Jackie showed this small wall-hanging and explained how she sews corner pieces on the back so she can easily slip a hanging rod under the corners.

Katy had bought this floral fabric as backing for another quilt but rejected it. Later it was perfect for the quilt top in a class she took at a local quilt shop. She quilted it on her long-arm machine.

Pat made this quilt from a kit which Lynn put together for donations to the palliative care group in one of our hospitals.

This cute quilt shown by Regina is a comfort quilt.

These two bright comfort quilts were pieced by Donna E.

Robyn pieced this wall-hanging to use for quilting practice.

This table runner helped Robyn deplete some of her stash.
Robyn's sister Kay helped her make this fused appliqué wall-hanging.
A friend gave Roxann this appliqué pattern after the friend had decided not to make it herself.
This appliqué wall-hanging appealed to Roxann because her daughter is a cellist.

Sandra used the small quilts above for quilting practice.
Shirley was dressed for the July 4  holiday, including wearing earrings she had made. This small quilt is titled "Daddy's Taking His Little Girl Fishing" and is a donation for the Small Quilt Auction.
