Business Meeting, June 4th Minutes

Anchorage Log Cabin Quilters, Inc.

ALCQ Business Meeting June 4, 2009

Call to Order: 10:30 am. President Pam Harris presiding.

Reports:
Minutes from the meeting of May 7, 2009 were corrected to indicate these changes: The June 18 day program will be a presentation entitled “ALCQ History Photos and Stories” ; Harmony Moser is organizing a group of volunteers to quilt the 2010 raffle quilt. The minutes were approved as corrected.

Treasurer’s Report: Betty Bivins presented the May report. A copy is on file with the Secretary.

Old Business: Missouri Guild: Pat Schroeder reported that she has made contact with the Log Cabin Quilters of Harrisonville, Missouri. Members suggested we might exchange newsletters, send them a copy of our quilt auction DVD, do a log cabin challenge, trade post cards or trading cards. Contact Pat Schroeder with additional ideas.
Newsletter. No volunteers were forthcoming to fill the newsletter co-chair vacancy. Contact Ruthe Rasmussen or Pam Harris if you can help.
New Business:
Nominating Committee: The President has chosen a nominating committee consisting of Rena Brinker, Robin Maas, and Kay Baehr. Currently the positions vacant are secretary and newsletter editors.
Committee Reports:
Comfort Quilt Committee: Rosemary Slizs reminded members that there are kits available and tops to be quilted. The next comfort quilt workshop is the last Thursday in July.

Retreat: Cheryl Griffin reported that 32 people attended the retreat at North Star Bible Camp. Next year the retreat will be held at the same camp on May 20 to 23, 2010. Cheryl reminded members that they can order commemorative guild bags, shirts, scratch pads, and lanyards through her.

Famous Quilters: Deb Hardman asked anyone having pictures from the Gail Garber class to mail them to her for inclusion on the web site. Linda Parkhouse reported that on September 17-19, 2009, Larken Van Horn will be teaching classes on embellishments and shattered circles.

Quilt Show: Harriet Shaftel passed out fliers she made for the show. Rosemary Slizs urged people to sign up to help with the September show. Raffle tickets are available. Mona Havelock won the incentive prize for her donation for the small quilt auction. The August 20 day program will be devoted to learning how to prepare and hand quilt the 2010 raffle quilt. Doris Rhodes will lead the presentation.

Teddy Bear Quilts: Quilts made by students at McLaughlin Youth Center were displayed and members who helped the students with this project reported on what they had gained from the experience. Pat Sims will do a newsletter article, and the quilts and teddy bears will be on display at the September show.

Announcements: Any members having complaints or concerns about any guild procedure, activity, behavior, etc. should contact a member at large (Marge McLaughlin or Jetta Brewer-Huber). The member at large will bring the anonymous concern to the Board and they will decide how best to remedy the situation.

Following the meeting, spring rhubarb cake (donated by Pat Schroeder) was served and the June birthdays were celebrated.
